Holsworthy Medical Centre
2001-2

Client: The Holsworthy Medical Practice, telephone 01409 253692.

Project: New surgery with pharmacy on a new site adjacent to the Community Hospital. Includes consulting and treatment suites, with ancillary provision for training and NHS Trust staff, staff and customer parking, and bridge link to the hospital.

Background: The Practice had outgrown premises in the centre of Holsworthy, and identified this site for a new centre closely linked to the Community Hospital, with room for future growth.

Design: The brief was to make the best use of the site and natural light while maintaining costs within a strict budget. The cruciform layout provides a separate wing for Trust and pharmacy functions and will accommodate extension in each leg. All public spaces are on one level for ease of access with measures to help those with disabilities in line with best practice.

Contract: 1000m2 Contract sum: £990,000 (£92/ft2) Contractor: J. Stacey & Co. Limited (traditional).

Future: The Practice occupied the new buildings in May 2002 with a Boots Pharmacy and a range of Trust and Social Services staff to act as a true medical centre for the area.
